Nearly 200 college teams will being revving their engines. But the winner will not be determined by speed but by the cleanest exhaust and best fuel efficiency. Philippe Maindru, head of last year's winner, St. Joseph's La Joliverie College of Nantes, said F1 teams could take a cue from these students: "Imagine what could be achieved if their thousands of engineers concentrated on going far rather than fast."

From May 12 - 14, 2008, the Laurel Centre for Social Entrepreneurship will be presenting the inaugural Social Entrepreneurship Intensive, which we have lovingly termed the "bootcamp."
The Intensive will run for three full days at the University of Waterloo and will cover an in-depth exploration of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the budding or growing social entrepreneur. With workshops run by experts and veterans in the field of social enterprise, the Intensive will provide you with a venue and a network of like-minded peers to expand your social entrepreneurial horizons.
You may be a good fit for the Social Entrepreneurship Intensive if:
* You are starting a social enterprise and seek support and direction;
* You are a student thinking about pursuing a career in social entrepreneurship;
* Your organization is developing a social enterprise for growth or financial support;
* You work for an established not-for-profit organization that could benefit from our many workshops;
* You work in a sector that supports social enterprises (government, corporate, etc) and are seeking firsthand knowledge of the needs and challenges of today's social enterprises.
Highlights will include presentations from Alan Quarry, CEO of Quarry Integrated Communications, on branding and marketing; John Baker, CEO of Aperio Inc., on revenue generation; Cheryl Rose, director of partnerships and projects for the Social Innovation Generation at the University of Waterloo, on engaging universities; Geoff Malleck, associate director of the Centre for Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology at UW, on entrepreneurship; and Bob Copeland, associate vice-president of annual giving and alumni affairs at UW, on seeking sponsorship.
The Social Entrepreneurship Intensive program will be limited to 30 participants. The three-day event costs $250 for students and $450 for community members. Workshop materials, accommodations and meals are provided for all participants as part of the program. University of Waterloo undergraduate students are eligible to apply for one of 13 grants generously provided by UW's Federation of Students and the Arts Endowment Fund.
