Too Much Information

  • Discuss the threshold for 'too much information.' Do you/your company tend to rely on public, private, or a mix of information when making decisions. What are the advantages and drawbacks of each?
  • Has your experience with public info suffered from the proverbial 'double-edged sword?' Brainstorm times when public info was given too much authoritative credence. Compare research techniques for making investment decisions
  • If private info ultimately trumps public info, does that give unfair access to a select group? How might you reconcile this?

FastTalk

  • How do you even begin resurrecting a maligned industry like telecom? Rate your various CEOs on how well they connect to their employer; is there any tangible product like at IHOP?

Culture

  • What 'qualities' do your group members look for when deciding which CEO committed the 'worst sin?' Discuss the 'CEO-as-rock-star' defense. Does it have any credence or is it just a construct of hindsight?

Playing To Win

  • Try and get a group member to bring in a PS2 or XBox to your next meeting and play some of the games. What is the value of having such life-like games? Have they become more than just entertainment?
  • Are games like 'Medal of Honor' and 'Grand theft Auto' blurring the line between fantasy and reality too much? Do the kids of your group members who play EA sports games even play real sports?
  • Try out the beta online version of 'Sims Online', the next step in online gaming. How would jazz it up EA-style? How could you design an interesting video game about office life?
  • What happens when video games change the nature of the subject matter? Discuss the recent controversy in professional football, where players are being punished for the hard hits that NFL-sanctioned games glorify. Is anyone 'right' in these situations?
