July 2002 Next Steps

  • Fast Break. It's summertime! Arrange a CoF trip to the beaches of Florida, California, or around the world. All your beach gear can be found online, and don't forget to refresh your knowledge of beach safety.
  • Auto repairs are going chain in Crash Course. Analyze the role of the mechanic in your corporation. Are their parallel positions? Bring in an auto mechanic to your next meeting to orient your group members on the best way to find a good mechanic, or go over do-it-yourself tips for common car problems to help keep costs down. What auto parts are likely trouble spots, and what is their effect on the rest of the car? Relate this to business-- what departments or technologies often give your group members problems, how can you tweak them to make the machine that is your office run more efficiently.
  • Conduct a road to recovery tour in your town. Visit some of the higher- and lower-profile restaurants, coffee shops, bars, office buildings and corporations and try to get someone from management to speak to your group (or bring them to a meeting). Ask how their business has been in the past two years compared to previous years and since Sept. 11. Do they see signs of recovery, how are they keeping afloat now? While you may have already had a group outing to a major- or minor-league baseball game, try rounding the troops up for another. This time think of how fantasy baseball team owners operate. Apply the same principles of specialization, free agency and fantasy value to your company. Have each group member outline the ideal players for their fantasy corporation.
