May 2000 Next Steps

  • Were you sucking wind to keep up with track coach John Smith? Get up to speed by participating in a benefit walk or run. Sign up for an AIDs walk or a Race for the Cure fitness run to raise money for breast cancer research and initiatives. Runner's World magazine has created a site that will take you to the fastest of fast lanes with a round up on races worldwide. Check out a city index of running and walking events, as well as a listing of useful links.
  • Did Carlo Petrini make you want to slow down to wise up? You know where to find the nearest fast food joint, but how about exploring the Italian art of slow food. Plan a culinary outing for your next CoF meeting. Look for local winery and brewery tours. If you can't take a tour, head to a local restaurant, bar, or stay-awhile café for a menu of slow fare and face-to-face conversation. Before you go, take some pocket-guide tips on how to taste and talk about wine.
  • Did Ralph Appelbaum inspire you to explore a museum? Were you jazzed by the Orpheus approach to leadership? Then expand your mind and gather CoF members for a cultural outing. Venture to Appelbaum's site for links to his museums. Explore an index of museums and galleries worldwide, complete with links to each site, and the Virtual Library, which lists museums by country and is searchable by name, type, and state. Musical America magazine provides a culture finder that searches nationwide for more than 350,000 theater, music, opera, dance, and visual arts events. For a pre-concert warm up, check out BBC Music Magazine's classical music reviews.
