Books That Matter
In the October issue, Fast Company launched its new book club. Designed for readers and CoF members who love ideas, the FC Book Club will focus on the best and brightest books about leadership and innovation -- books that share the mission of the magazine and books that can truly make a difference in our lives.
The first selection is "Authentic Leadership" by Bill George, the former CEO of Medtronic, the medical-device maker. The book is a thought-provoking prescription for merging business growth with social responsibility.
Readers are already discussing the book online. We featured Book Club host Charles Decker as a guest in FC Now, our staff blog. And Company of Friends groups are beginning to organize local book discussion groups of their own. We' ve even developed some helpful guidelines for people interested in organizing book discussions within their CoF groups and companies.
Join the discussion! And help us pick the next book of the month.
Po Bronson Keeps Walking
"Maybe it' s not economics that I like. Maybe it' s writing."
With those words, a writer was born. Po Bronson, now a four-time novelist and author of a coveted New York Times Best Seller, had found his calling.
Follow in Po Bronson' s footsteps and enter the Johnnie Walker Keep Walking contest.
Johnnie Walker and Fast Company are teaming up to support, congratulate, and reward those who take their dreams head on and turn them into reality.
Visit Po Bronson' s Web site to learn more about his most recent literary creation, What Should I Do With My Life? Then, after being inspired, enter the Keep Walking contest and tell us about an epiphany you have had that led to overcoming adversity -- or the point when your hard-fought journey turned to success.
Submit your story and enter to win.
One contestant will win the grand price, a trip to Kilmarnock, Scotland, for a tour of the distillery where Johnnie Walker, the world' s finest scotch, was born -- plus a profile of your story in Fast Company.
Fifteen contestants will win the second price, an autographed copy of Po Bronson' s book, "What Should I Do With My Life?"
Upcoming CoF Events
Every month, members and groups of the Company of Friends gather online and in person for discussions, workshops, and other events.
To help you learn more about -- and get involved in -- some of the best and brightest CoF events organized by members and groups every month, Fast Company offers a global, public calendar.
This network-at-a-glance calendar is accessible by non-members, as well as by CoF members. Use the global calendar as you travel on business. Share it with friends who don' t belong to the network.
CoF gatherings are a great way to meet other FC readers and forward-thinking business leaders and innovators in your area. We hope to see you at a CoF event soon!
