Meet Fast Company' s New Editor in Chief

Fast Company is proud to announce the hire of John A. Byrne, the magazine' s new editor in chief. Most recently a senior writer at Business Week in New York, John is the author of 57 cover stories at the magazine and eight books on business, leadership, and management.

Alan Webber and William Taylor, Fast Company' s founding editors, first approached John about 10 years ago when they had the prototype issue in hand and were prowling the streets of New York looking for capital to launch the magazine. John understands the history of Fast Company and its entire reason for being. And he' ll be able to take a fresh look at Fast Company with the perspective of a great business journalist.

"I immediately fell in love with Bill and Alan' s dream. Fast Company was remarkably smart, fresh and different," John says. "And I fell in love with them: their intelligence, their passion, and their enthusiasm for wanting to do a magazine that truly stood for something -- not yet another publication that merely reported news or wrote features on business celebrities."

While at Business Week, Byrne explored the fairness of executive pay, the folly of management fads, and the governance of major corporations. Byrne is also the creator of Business Week' s ranking of the best business schools (which was launched in 1988), the best and worst boards of directors in America (which first appeared in 1996), and its listing of the nation' s most generous philanthropists (which first appeared in 2002).

We look forward to working with John in this next stage of Fast Company' s evolution -- and we' re excited about involving John in the Company of Friends, Fast Company' s readers' network.
