Bill Green's name has become familiar at FC HQ. Green is the coordinator of the Atlanta Company of Friends (CoF), and several staffers have enjoyed his southern hospitality by attending meetings of his cell. The cell, which formed last year, is growing like kudzu. Here are some of Green's vital stats.
Age: 41
Favorite Roles: Husband (wife, Nancy, 39); father (son, Daniel, 2); president of Ecolink Inc., a company that develops environmentally safe alternatives to ozone-depleting industrial solvents; and CoF cell coordinator.
Previous Roles: President and founder of the Strategic Chemical Management Group; free agent and Arizona horse-ranch owner.
Motto: 'By the time you learn how to do a job, it's probably time to move on to a different one.'
Favorite FC Story: 'Your piece on Dee Hock (The Trillion-Dollar Vision of Dee Hock, October:November 1996) brought tears to my eyes. He created something globally powerful, yet he maintained a sense of humanity. I have this quote from the article on my computer screen: 'All organizations are merely conceptual embodiments of a very old, very basic idea -- the idea of community. They can be no more or less than the sum of the beliefs of the people drawn to them; of their character, judgments, acts, and efforts.' That reminds me that no one person can shape the future of any group.'
Best Thing about CoF: 'The members of this group have an energy that is unique in business. They're all different, yet there's a commonality in the way they see the world of work and their place in it. It's a kick to be around them.'
