The Most Innovative Companies in Web 2.0

By: Ellen McGirtWed Feb 11, 2009 at 5:56 PM

  1. Google: With Google Docs and the new Chrome browser, the search titan continues to take aim at Microsoft.
  2. Facebook: The social network that everyone loves to hate (but secretly loves anyway) overtook MySpace with 150 million active users.
  3. Digg: More than 35 million visitors per month submit 20,000 stories a day to the site. A recent $29 million financing round will keep the crowd thumbing through the downturn.
  4. Twitter: The microblogging phenom is adding up to 10,000 users a day, with the likes of The New York Times, JetBlue, and Lance Armstrong Tweeting.
  5. Meebo: More than 40 million users instant-message and chat across the Web through any format including the iPhone. A new partnership with Universal Music will connect chatters with artists, while a $25 million financing round in 2008 will fuel '09 expansion in Asia.
  6. FriendFeed: Relatively new to the life-streaming melee, FriendFeed aggregates every comment, posted picture, and status update from 59 Web services.
  7. Ning: More than 700,000 custom social networks have popped up on Ning, the platform that lets people make their own facebooks. The site now attracts 2,500 to 3,000 new networks a day.
  8. MySpace: Make fun of the chaos, but MySpace is the only social network that has made serious progress with targeted marketing. MyAds generates a reported $140,000 to $180,000 in daily revenue, making it a $50 billion business in theory.
  9. Yelp: With 4 million user-submitted reviews of everything from corner cafés to dog groomers, Yelp can make or break local businesses nationwide.
  10. Kayak: Already operating in 11 markets including India and China, the travel search engine is aggressively expanding in Europe. The profitable site boosted revenue by 240% last year.

Google is not innovative in regards to Web 2.0 - Microsoft is not a player in Web 2.0 neither is Google. Facebook is certainly innovative in Web 2.0 sphere - the introduction of Facebook Questions at Davos 09 (Facebook Question introduced Web 2.0 inclusion into an elitist club). Twitter is where innovation in Web 2.0 is at full speed - Twitter is a real time search engine that is changing the way Web 2.0 social networks are formed and indeed function. Ning is making progress but it is still to reach critical mass then we will see if it is innovative. MySpace continues to innovate its revenue models to better fit the Web 2.0 culture tribes it collects and facilitates.

I agree a lot on Facebook and Google. Google deserve the position as the most innovative company. They started most things first, the competitors are just followers.

When I was a little girl, I began to set myself a goal of being a Cartier Jewellery. gucci jewellery was not an cartier jewellery. It needed and cost a Gucci Jewellery. Actually I did spend a Cartier Rings of things before I became a Gucci Necklaces. I spent more time in study and doing physical exercise than my Cartier Rings. But I never regretted. Becoming a Gucci Necklaces policewoman was my dream. Cartier Bangles remember that when my dream came true, Gucci Bracelets was extremely happy. No pains, no gains. At that time, hard work seemed like a happy thing.
However, Cartier Bracelets is boring. Since Gucci Bracelets began to work, Cartier Bracelets find that every day Gucci Pendants have many things to deal with. Moreover Cartier Earrings is boring. Every day when I go home, I am very tired. My parents are against my job. They are afraid that one day I will come across the dangerous situations. It is possible. However, as long as I help Gucci Pendants, I feel happy and satisfied. I know that this job can make my life meaningful. Besides I know my life should be colorful as the others.

Wow, I just notice that Yelp is included in the list! Cool.. I visited the site quite often to find review about restaurants. They are apparently one of the greatest.
