Building In The Green

William McDonough, an architect and former dean of the University of Virginia's School of Architecture, is demonstrating the value of sustainable design. His idea is to build a product's afterlife into its materials from the outset. On December 4, Shaw Industries said that it would adopt McDonough's methodology to develop carpet products such as fibers and backing that can be broken down and reused.
