Sarah Palin won... because she didn't implode! hahaha! I love it.
Strictly speaking as someone who was trying to watch it objectively, it was agonizing to watch both of them. Joe was completely holding back and you could see it! I was waiting for him to just run across the stage and slap her for continually to repeat the same lines... well, not that bad, but he had the opportunity to attack her and ask for specifics for her claims of increased taxes, McCain's energy plans, etc... but he didn't.
And Sarah, she survived. If that was her goal, she did it. She had 2 lines - obama will increase taxes and she knows energy, don't 'cha know. She gave tax cuts to Alaskans... why do we not talk about how there's less than 700,000 people in alaska? given, alaska has oil underground. you hit up the oil companies for money and you're easily able to give some of that back to your residents as tax breaks. you think she can give each of us 1k back? let's think about it for a second: 300M US citizens, 1k each... that's $300,000,000,000 straight from the oil companies into our hands. and you think that won't translate into higher prices at the pump? trust me, if i was the owner of exxon, i'd charge you for my tax.
Oh yeah, and Sarah's shout out, "don't 'cha know", "i'm such an outsider" crap... if only TV allowed me to reach in and slap her around a few times. It's painful to watch.
I think from a "saving face" standpoint, Palin won last night. She didn't win the debate, but she won the fight she came out to fight. Did she say anything substantive that I'd not heard before? No.
What it comes down to for me, is, if the president died or became incapable of filling his duties, which VP candidate would I feel more comfortable in the spot? For me? Biden ...
They both did. Sarah Palin didn't make any major mistakes and her charisma came across. I am sure she energized the conservative base and undid some of the negativity from the interviews of prior weeks.
But, Joe Biden won overall. He gave answers of substance and actually answered the questions that the moderator Gwen Ifill asked. And that will probably have a more tangible effect on the race, nudging independents and undecided voters toward Barack Obama's ticket.
Well golly gee bejeez, shucks, slam bam thank you maam! Ugh, if I ever hear that bibmo open her mouth again I am going to puke. Tina Faye has Sarah dead on..when backed into a corner or tough question, she gets all cutesy and folksy....pleez, Sarah Palin winning a debate? Biden out classed her, out smarted her and showed more depth and compassion and heart to be our Veep....she needs to go back home with her beauty queen sash and keep an eye on Russia from her kitchen window!
The major difference I saw in the debate was that from Biden....all you heard was the same "old guard" washington rhetoric focusing on John McCain as opposed to what him and obama would do.
On the other hand, Palin focused on what she brings to this campaign and her record as a govenor....BOTTOM LINE....going forward (palin) vice going backward (biden)
Clearly Biden won. He has a masterful command of the facts and their relevance to us. He stuck to the game plan and made me more confident than ever that I have made the correct choice supporting the Obama/Biden ticket.
Since we finally got to see Ms. Palin speak for an extended amount of time, I now understand exactly what it is that bothers me so about her. She is the perfect embodiment of the 'relativist fallacy' as in the "If by whisky..." speech. Her logic was circular - I couldn't twell what she was really saying...was she ofr or against? In addition, she spouted the same tired completely untrue party lines - again expecting us to accept it simply because she keeps repeating, and repeating and repeating... ad nauseum. Had no specific answers, gave no solutions beyond the same Bush policies that have proven so disasterous for the country. I am thankful that she didn't fall on her face because we got to see Palin for what she is... devoid of reason and unfit for the office.
hey... just out of curiosity, did anyone catch the bit from CNN or fox... one of those media stations that play US politics 24x7 (obviously, nothing else is happening in the world)... the bit was one of the anchors saying how people who are judging Palin are the intellectuals and those aren't the people Palin's shooting for. The anchor lashed out at the intellectuals for beating on her. What's this world coming to?!?!
If Palin would go back to school, learn Russian and arithmetics, do an internship as a secretary in the "Foreign Affairs Office" for 3 months, return and share with us her ideas and experience, then..., and only then, I MAY CONSIDER VOTING FOR HER ...
During the debate, Palin said something to the point of "i really like to just be able to talk to people, blah blah blah and how the media is just trying to 'get her' in the interviews" What she should have said was, "i like the just spew and not be questioned about anything... don't ask about specifics, nothing... just let me spew."
Every poll shows Biden clearly won. It also shows that Palin exceeded expectations...which was that she would make a complete fool of herself...well she did not but she certainly did not prove she is qualified.
She may have played well to her base, but with 30 days left, it is not about your base, it is about independents, and polls also show that Biden won the independents in the debate...so Palin did not help McCain who is sinking fast...the election is going to be a landslide for Obama/Biden at this point unless McCain can do something other than change his opinions every 5 mintues.
Well, if 12Th grade knowledge is the mark to be dubbed an "INTELLECTUAL - ELITIST" ... Then, half of the USA is "INTELLECTUAL - ELITIST"... And, if being an "INTELLECTUAL - ELITIST" is unpatriotic ... then, we will live in an America where the "DUMB leads the BLIND" ... or are we there already!
There's no doubt that Senator Biden won the debate resoundingly. Sarah Palin showed herself to be a political lightweight, utterly unready for the high office John Mccain is proposing her for. That said, she got away with it and lives to fight another day, which is a victory in itself.
why does the way sarah palin presented herself verbally during the debate cause this forum to "peronally insult" her as opposed to providing objective comments???
Senator Biden clearly won. His response on the role of the vice president in particular was intelligent and insightful. None of gov. Palin's responses were of equal caliber. Plus, if I hear the term Maverick one more time...
"being objective, she presented herself as a lightweight beauty pageant queen with a sharp tongue" alot of good media columnists that would disagree!!!!!!
Bottom Line…who gives “shot out’s” in a debate at a time when your trying to prove yourself to hold a power position in the White House. Are you kidding me? She danced around important questions that was asked to her, blew them off and did it “her way”. How disrespectful is that to the American people? Of course some of you people think she won cause you fail to look at the facts that she was trained to focus on certain issues. She was clearly in Robot Mode. She did better then the Katie Couric interview only because her own party thought she could be a disaster and continuously hurt there campaign. They don’t have faith in this woman to be herself, cause they know she is a mess. I am disappointed in John McCain for using her in such a way just to get the woman votes that were for Hilary Clinton. Or whatever his motives are. Cleary she is not ready for the VP position and she is BY FAR ready to run our Country. If she had any ounce of knowledge she should draw the line, step down and stop letting herself be a joke of America. Especially for us woman.
You Republicans need to jump back into reality seriously!!!
Biden was clearly the winner. He gave clear answers and provided details, where palin once again skirted the question and only gave talking points. She really is the master of answering with the nonanswer.
Joe Biden by a landslide.
Ms. Palin came across as a capricious lightweight that was given points to memorize, state and not stray from by her handlers. Too small-town and folksy to hold her own with world leaders.
WHereas Sen. Biden came across as an experienced, smart, legislator who understands the big leagues and what it takes to lead and generate consensus.
As a woman, I am disgusted that Palin's approval rating went up among my gender. Although she didn't make any major mistakes, she rarely answered Gwen's questions and severely lacked knowledge of foreign affairs. I am not impressed with name dropping especially when she can't even get the name of the US General in Aghanistan correct. She sounded rehearsed and lacked original ideas except when she was winking and delivering her cutesy one liners. She was extremely condescending to Senator Biden, who was clearly more knowledgeable of the issues and actually had a plan. Joe Biden knew more about how McCain voted in the Senate than Palin did. Biden doesn't plan on enlarging the role of VP, whereas Sara would. Yes, let's just change the Constitution to fit her power hungry, "baracuda" self.I wish Joe Biden would have gotten more aggressive and let her have it, but he excercised class and restraint so that he would not be perceived as badgering the "woman." And as a teacher, I did not appreciate her completely insincere remark about Biden's wife getting her just reward in heaven for being a teacher. What does Sara know about my profession other than, "You betcha, we need to add more testing!" Biden won hands down on the issues and his qualifications and readiness to be VP.

Clearly, Biden did the best job. He came across as intelligent, informed and comfortable. Palin, on the other hand, with her "Goleeee...gee...goshdarnit...youbetcha" yehaws made me wonder if I was watching a rerun of HeeHaw. I can visualize it now -- her sitting with heads of nations and spouting, "Golleee...gee..now goshdarnit, we need for you to cease making nuclear weapons, dontchaknow??? Youbetcha we're going to be watching you!"
If Palin were running for "Miss Country Bumpkin 2009" she would have my vote...but when it comes to the issues, Biden has my vote for showing his smarts. Now gosbydarn, if you don't like my answer -- (and I'm surprised we didn't hear this too) "kiss my grits"!
Objectively, Governor Palin won hands down. She subtly pointed out the inconsistencies between Biden and Obama. How Biden has had to substantially change his view of Obama to be on the ticket. Many believe that Biden had more command of the facts however his “facts” were wrong, Palin showed great restraint in not falling on the floor laughing at some of his comments. She was able to name Names and locations, whereas Biden used generalization. Biden/Obama are fast and loose with the facts. Both parties distort the other’s record, which is despicable, but Biden/Obama don’t simply parse or misrepresent the facts, they make facts up or deny what they said or did yesterday.
I did find it humorous that Biden was lecturing Palin on the role of VP as spelled out in Article 1 of the Constitution pertaining to the executive branch, which we all know Article 1 talks about the legislative branch. This is more of a gaffe, but shows Biden does not have as strong of a grasp of his current job nor of the job he is applying for as many would like us to believe.
Palin Won if popularity matters and being that Obama is a Presidential nominee it is proof that popularity matters over substance, ethics and experience. Sarah Palin won by a mile but what is great is the polls shown by CNN, CBS that show she lost. But go to any poll that is an open poll ( ex. AOL ) and it shows she won in all of them. This country is under siege by a media with an agenda. When Aston Kutcher, Pam Anderson and Matt Damon are being quoted as political authorities by major news networks and Polls are being reported that dont jive with any info collected by open sources...We are being Punked!!
