The next president must get this war under control. There's no reason for us to be over there. Also green initiatives should be a priority on the agenda.
I doubt the US would not remain a top player in the world economy under any circumstances, barring some horrible apocalyptic scenario. So preventing a horrible apocalypse would be the one thing I guess.

If we want to remain a world economic leader, we have to have tax policies that reward innovation and productivity. Even the Russians have gone to a flat income tax!
Leadership in the world starts with personal leadership. A country's standing in the world is finally a reflection of the effort its citizens have made in areas of personal responsibility, overcoming obstacles to living lives of purpose and meaning.
Realize that we are not alone in this world..
Global confidence or opinion of the USA has drastically declined in the last 10 years. Which some would say can be directly attributed to the actions of the government. I've always found it puzzling that leaders and particularly governments don't understand the connection between this and economic performance. If the general opinion of the USA by the people of another country is poor they will collectively be less likely to buy US made products, less likely to travel to the USA and less likely to want to deal with US companies.
Now, before someone thinks this is just a case of the "Everyone should like me!" syndrome. Let me clarify that it is not. It's just that the "shoot from the hip", "What everyone else thinks doesn't matter, because I'm going to do what I want." attitude doesn't work in the global economy that we have today.
World Leaders are not leaders, they are for the most part politicians. Our next President needs to lead, if America is expected to hold its own in the world. The next President needs to set one remarkable goal such as energy independence and get there, it is possible. Then the U.S. will have products and services the rest of the world will want and respect.
