I'm not at all. I have a secure job, and live in the DC area where housing prices need to fall for my wife and I to get into the market. If we decide not to buy, then I'll pour my money into biotech at the trough, and put it into a house when we want to. Biotech is finally ready for long-term investment and I don't need a house if I'm uncertain about it. If a recession is going to deepen, I say, live more frugal and make the most of the time to invest in the future innovators.
Jeffrey Immelt (that took over for Welch) at GE made the comment a few years ago that he was running a global company. I sent a note to his PR folks reminding him that GE was an American company and that he and his board of directors lived in America....
I'm in Michigan. We're ahead of the curve here, already entrenched in a recession. I fear less for myself than others, because I know it's going to be much worse. Credit will continue to tighten until all the damage from years of too much and too easy credit has been shaken out of the system. We are going to have to consider bail-outs to banks in the very near-term. (See http://riskmoment.com/ralm/2008/02/13/uncategorized/shift-risk-to-uncle-...) Until we get this cleared up, while juggling increasing inflation due to rising fuel prices, it's going to be a tough slog.
We are a start up competing with giants, I like a recession right now, We are lean mean and nimble and the giants we are competing with are big, slow and confused. Bring it on!!!
I was really worried until I heard about the economic stimulus package. Now, knowing that I’m about to receive a windfall of free cash in the form of a tax rebate check, I think I’ll invest half and live off of the rest for the next 20 years.
All kidding aside, I’m not that worried. It’s not the first recession and it definitely won’t be the last.
Living in the Bay Area is pretty expensive as it is. I hope the "R" word scares people enough to truly start partnering with others, networking in your neighborhood, identify thought leaders and mentors that are close to you.
I do not know whether the questioner is afraid or the question is questioning fear, but I am encouraged by the responses I have read here. Yes, we all fear life when it has reached its abyss, but the percentages of fact speak greater than the facts of abyss - if human life can survive and even thrive in the most harshest environments on earth, then what is a recession, other than the fear of going bald. In other words, for most of us, if we keep our hair on (glued or natural) we can begin to ask ourselves far more positive questions that encourage and transform positive life, the very kind of spirit that is self-evident in many responses here to date......M.

Not afraid of recession. If that's all we get, we should be thankful.
NAFTA + CAFTA + 2 extended wars + outsourcing + 12million invaders = TheAmericanDream?

We have nothing to fear but fear itself... the more afraid people are the worse it will be.

On the "afraid scale," I'm at about a five (out of ten). It's hard for me to interpret what's really happening out there.

in the short-term, not worried because the recession doesn't impact me directly, but in the long term, it affects everybody.

I am terrified, it seems there is little to no chance to avoid it either. Hopefully the next president will be able to handle it and help fix it fast.

Recession is an expectation of economy, as inevitable as the sunrise; or the sunset I should say. It will happen, sooner rather than later, it seems.
