Learning Worlds
Media Localization Round Table - Seattle
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Following on the heels of Last month's media localization roundtable at the Learning Worlds office in New York we'd like to continue the discussion with people in the Seattle area. How do you make multimedia content accessible, understandable and appropriate to a multitude of local audiences in an increasingly global marketplace?
As technology tools advance, and markets become increasingly global, localization of media content has becomes a complex imperative. We'd like to invite you to get together with some like-minded folks to explore the current challenges as well as future directions of localization. Whether you are someone who commissions localized content or someone who creates multimedia projects for diverse audiences, we'd like to share ideas about what works, what doesn't, and what each of us wishes we could do. By comparing successes and challenges, each of us will leave with a broader understanding of the current issues and, hopefully, some new ideas for successful strategies.
To get the conversation going, we've been thinking about:
• Technical issues like character sets and software challenges related to specific languages
• Cultural issues in design; everything from photographic/video representations of people, to colors and visual idioms
• Process hurdles and localization communities
• The impact of localization on budgets and planning
We hope you'll have some interesting topics to add as well and we’ll share some of our findings and thoughts from the last event.
