Dubai may have its indoor ski slope, artificial islands, and all the glitz that a Middle Eastern fortune can buy, but it hasn't been able to purchase a reputation as a center for high culture. This two-day seminar--part of the fast-growing Art Dubai fair--could bring a little art-world sophistication to the emirate-cum-megamall of the Middle East. Speakers including former Venice Biennale director Maria De Corral and Pamela Kramlich, an SFMoMA trustee who has works by Matthew Barney and Bruce Nauman in her substantial contemporary-art collection, will explain how corporations and wealthy donors can help transform business centers into cultural powerhouses.
