the sustainable economy

Posted by Robin Smith on January 19, 2008 at 1:02 pm

Hi Sherri... expected to see William Foote, Jonathan Rosenthal and Paul Meyers here, alas I find myself alone. I'd like to get a conversation going about The Sustainable Economy - you know, the one that's coming that engages with ecology through carbon and humanity through transparency and fairplay in trade. I've had this idea burning in my brain for some years now; what if we completely dispensed with the idea of 'buying' (blind purchase) and evolved the idea of 'investing' or conscious consumption. So, instead of buying a pack of coffee, we invest vin the company that produces it? Hmm. think I'm talking to myself again.

No, we're here! Just getting rolling with the private beta. Lots of the CoF members just being invited tonight. You can help us out by inviting some friends to this group or suggesting an event -- we'll be doing online/call-in panel discussion call ins at least once a month. Who would you want to see as a speaker?

Have the online panel discussions begun? I'm new to the forum. I would love to hear/see monthly speakers in the field of social responsibility. I have a blog that discusses cause + capitalism; I'll likely tie in discussion topics from this forum.

Sustainable economies are by definition based on "sustainable criteria" - none of the debt based industrial age economic models fit the bill, but through use of Information Age technologies it can be done. Shoot a Lion Video instead of a Lion, a plan does exist for that to become a reality, to replace natural resources with elements from human creativity. You can see this plan in full by visiting www.peaceportal.mobi/open (Please don't use Internet Explorer -yet; otherwise visit just www.peaceportal.mobi NO /open for the non web2.0 version). This site has many good articles on defining, implementing, and maintaining legally (with Human Rights) a global sustainable economic model that can also hook into Local Community Currencies. From LETS systems to schematics for Free Energy Devices & Global Warming plans, this is one of the best Solution Sites on sustainability there is. Hope that helps, and I appreciate this discussion.

i will take a look. Meanwhile you might like to hear that I (we/host) have been working on the transformation of a global Fair Trade organization that has developed an organizational certification program that will, over 3 years, turn a business into a sustainable fair trade business. The new entity behind the certification is the World Fair Trade Organization and it and the certification system will be surfacing in May09. This is a very good thing and the result of a life time's work and two years of inspiratonal leadership by a certain Paul Myers.
