How much is enough when it comes to Social Networks?

Posted by VJ Misra on June 25, 2008 at 12:47 pm

With the advent of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking websites in mainstream corporate America, have we hit rock bottom? Are we now “over-connected”? Do we really need all our friends and colleagues to know what we do each minute of our day? Should companies ban these websites from corporate networks?

There have been instances where it was reported that a lot of these social networking websites were banned from corporate networks. What are your thoughts on this?

Banning a site, any site from a corporate network is not a good idea because it creates a captive and controlling corporate nature. Such a nature will not result in high employee morale. In the end, such issues are still solved by simply hiring the right person into the right position. That way, the person will be so naturally excited and motivated to work that such concerns will be almost non-existent.
