How to find entrepreneurial jobs in mid to larger companies?

Posted by Alex Yost on May 01, 2008 at 9:08 am

After working for myself for a number of years and, now, coming out of my 2nd unsuccessful startup I need to have a salary which means (gulp) finding a job. But I'm an entrepreneur, which means I need to be building something new and forward looking. I certainly cannot deal well with office politics, bureaucracy, and a lack of creativity. Any ideas about how to find entrepreneurial jobs in larger companies?

Alex,

First I would have to ask why you feel your own start-ups did not succeed? If the ability to sell your product or service was not one of the reasons then I would offer sales of logistic services as a possibility. For the most part, 3PL's, Freight Companies, Import/Export brokers, all allow their sales staffs to hunt for their own business and build their own client lists. I find many of them allow you to work from home and provide a solid base if not a strong draw for up to one year. QA, and QC are also in such high demand right now that I have many candidates who dictate their terms to their perspective employers.

Good Hunting,

Alex:
I would look for a route sales job. These types of jobs typically will give you a lot of freedom, and in many cases you'll be able to work from home.
Good luck in your search.
