Bug in Profile Editing

Posted by Oliver Thylmann on January 19, 2008 at 3:59 am

When you use the back button of your browser when editing your
profile (I did it to go back to the first page), then edit something
again, and go on to save, you will get the following error:

This content has been modified by another user, changes cannot be saved.

I am pretty sure I am not a different user though, which either
makes that a wrong error message or a bug ;) On to some more bug
hunting.

In Firefox I am not able to edit my company and title. I was able to edit the phone number though which makes me wonder what is going on.

While completing my profile, or attempting to, each time I would Submit the page I completed there was a different result. After filling in VCard details it took me back to the profile page where I could select from the left the next area to fill in. But on other details, submit took me back to My Homepage and I had to start again on updating my profile - though the info I had already submitted was saved. Seems like on each Submit you should return to the profile page to select next section to update.

When entering professional history, after entering my current position, I began entering previous positions held and had trouble entering the end dates of those positions. I used the dropdown on the year and the year I needed was not available.

I entered my new info (workplace and title) in the VCard section and saved it. But when I view my public profile the old info is still there.

I'm having trouble updating my profile. After selecting "update profile", and entering updated info on the next page (ie: who can see my profile), and clicking on submit, the next page after that is not a continuation of profile aspects to update, but just a regular site page.

Using IE7 the "submit and continue" button is not consistent as reported above. The first and third part of the profile then navigated to a page rather than allowing the edit of the profile to continue smoothly.

I am having the same problem updating my profile.

January 29, 2008 at 10:11pm by Jeffrey Schutzler

dates entered do not match dates that appear in profile

I add same problem as Mary Reagan:

Just to clarify: The information was updated for most of the fields, except for the Name, Company and Job Title.

Mary & Luc,

The info you enter for your vCard only appears in the downloadable vCard file. To update your Public Profile, you need to edit your info on Professional History.

This seems to be a usability issue rather than a technical issue, so we will look into making this clearer.

To all other posters, we will be doing a comprehensive review of the registration/profile edit process. Please continue to report issues here!

How do we update our email address in our profile? It seems this is the one field missing from the form. Or perhaps there is another place for updating the email address? Thanks.

February 12, 2008 at 5:20pm by Bekah Wilcox

Hi Anna, you can change your email address by clicking My Settings on your toolbar. There you can also change your password, notification preferences, and profile availability.

Old info stays in Vcard after edits...looks like an ongoing issue...

April 16, 2008 at 2:52pm by Chase Wegmann

well the v-card issue is still unresolved. I have attempted to change my position yet the old info remains; even after deleting the field all together. Any help you can give?

It sill doesn't work. That's not a very good impression for FC. I can't change my company nor position or name.

I just signed up and can't even update my profile at all. When I try to complete the first page of preferences, it tells me that "You can't create more nodes of this type for this user." And it doesn't let me go forward. Even more alarming, when I try to view my full profile it has a name that is not my own: "Mohideen's 117091" and that's pretty much it. I can't make any changes to it nor can I delete my profile and start over.

As someone who was initially excited about finding this new community, it has turned out that I've found more frustration than anything else.

My apologies for the last double post--clearly there is something wrong with my profile as my name doesn't even show up, sigh. At this stage, I guess I'll just add bogus info into my profile since I can't delete, then try and sign up again?

Same issues here. Can't edit etc. Obviously big problems on the backend.

What's more irritating is that the profiles are in Google, and because of FC's page rank/relevance, mine is on page 1, if I google myself. My birth year shows up, zip code and not much else.

Grrr.

It says my profile is 75% complete, but when I click "edit profile" to complete it nothing shows up (it takes me to a content page with "Today's Big Idea" and other content, but no fields to edit). There's no way to make additions or edit existing data.

June 13, 2008 at 10:53am by niels12345

I still can't edit my Name, Company name or Position. That's realy bad, because everyone will find this information on Google.

Please change that!

Seems to be a fundamental problem here ... same as the other reports: I still can't get "old" public profile updated, etc., so any FC search or Google search shows wrong info. A far less damaging problem was the upgrade also nuked my old CoF info, showing a join in 2007 rather than when CoF started (still holding on to my original T-shirt :-)

"fundamental" means fix or delete the functionality ... for any attempt to establish "community" e.g., Company of Friends, this is a make or break issue. For all the talk of "responsibility" in the mag, doesn't seem to translate to the web with such a core problem still not resolved 8+ months later ...

I can't figure out how to delete my profile. Please help.

I am unable to edit my profile. I save the changes, but the corrections are not made to my profile.

January 18, 2009 at 9:38pm by Chris DeNigris

I have tried to delete my profile but it is still searchable in google. Annoying because I set up a profile and want to change it cause it's all wrong. FC is so on top of everthing too, this is a big problem.

How the heck do I delete my profile?
