Companies like VABioDiesel are making strides in creating alternate forms of fuel from soybeans and grains. But food riots in Haiti and Egypt, and a strike in Burkina Faso bring to light the negative effects these innovations are having in the poorer areas of the world. The more farmers convert from growing food to fuel, the higher the price the poor will pay. Is it morally acceptable for the developed world to convert to using the traditional food of the poor for fuel? If not grain what other options are on the fuel horizon?
