Social activity is important, however you have to ask yourself what kind of social activity you're going to engage in. "Making it Big" is a relative concept and each person has a different perception of what "Big" means . . . however, a social life can be engaged just as much by someone who dedicates free time to non-profits than by someone who goes clubbing every Friday and Saturday night. Overall, I would say that social activity is a component of increasing visibility . . . I would recommend that individuals consider their options carefully. The further along in your career you are, the more critical your judgment and decision-making ability becomes. Plus, companies like to be associated with individuals that align themselves with good causes.
