Fundamentally, the teaching of "writing" has veered away from its roots in logic, reasoning, and composition -- and become an exercise in formatting and rules.
Those who truly learn how to communicate in writing can adapt to any format. Good ideas are nimble enough to survive the translation.
Now, to your real question: are we teaching people to properly cast and develop their ideas? Are we training them on the value of refining them before they are expressed? I'd say no. Instant publishing does away with the levels of revision that would polish a thought. We live in a world of rough drafts.
