During April of 2009, the Scion iQ was revealed to the people at the New York Auto Show. This may mean that Toyota is thinking about bringing the iQ to the US under their “youth brand” Scion name. The production Toyota iQ is currently being sold in Japan and Europe and doing quite well. Toyota says that after they revealed the car, they will try to get a good understanding of what the public thinks, then make a decision whether or not to release it in the US.
The iQ truly fits the micro-subcompact car category, as it measures just under ten feet. The vehicle is said to hold three adults plus luggage. However, this rather small vehicle does not lack in any area of safety. The iQ features an anti-lock brake system with Electronic Brake force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, and nine SRS airbags. What also might catch your eye is the iQ includes the world’s first rear window curtain airbag!
The iQ is powered by a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder, VVT-i engine which produces a 93 horsepower and 89 lb-ft of torque getting an estimated 54MPG. Toyota hopes to bring the iQ to the US with the Scion badge with some other body modifications in order to appeal to the younger population.
Now we will just have to sit back and wait and see what happens!
