Safety
All Sonatas come well-stocked with antilock brakes, traction
control, stability control, front seat side-impact airbags, full-length
side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. The 2009 Hyundai
Sonata scored five out of five stars in the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration's front- and side-impact tests. In Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, the Sonata earned a "Good"
rating (the highest) for frontal offset protection and an "Acceptable"
rating (second-highest) for side-impact protection.
Interior Design and Special Features
Hyundai interiors just keep getting better and better. Soft,
high-quality plastics abound, switchgear is excellent and the overall
design is eye-pleasing. The topsy-turvy ergonomics of the outgoing
design have been replaced with stereo and climate controls placed high
atop the center stack, leaving room for a spacious bin below. The
Limited trim level is particularly upscale, and is certainly the most
elegant environment one can inhabit for less than $25,000. As before,
the 2009 Hyundai Sonata boasts an especially spacious backseat and a
trunk that measures a class-best 16.3 cubic feet. If interior space and
perceived quality is a top priority, it's hard to beat the Sonata.
Interior Design and Special Features
The build quality of the new A4's cabin maintains Audi's good
reputation. Smooth leather surfaces, along with durable-looking plastic
and soft-touch materials, make for a nice combination of colors and
textures. Small touches, like ambient lighting for passengers
underneath the driver seat, add to the premium feel.
For 2009, Audi has relocated its MMI controls aft of the gearshift,
which makes them easier to access. (Frustratingly, the Cabriolet's
remain on the dash.) Other controls, such as those on the center stack
and steering wheel, are intuitive and well laid out -- although
operating certain features, like the climate control and navigation
systems, still takes some getting used to. An electromechanical parking
brake eliminates the need to yank up on a traditional lever and saves
space on the center console. The convertible's aging interior looks
outdated by comparison, but is still well-constructed from high-quality
materials. Trunk space in the sedan is an impressive 16.9 cubic feet.
The drop-top's trunk is smaller but still respectable, with 13.4 cubic
feet of space.

In late 2000, the A3 range was revised with new headlights and rear
light clusters, other minor cosmetic changes, an improved interior, and
the introduction of a six-speed manual gearbox, on the 180 PS (178
hp/132 kW) 1.8 Turbo and the brand new 130 PS (96 kW) 1.9 TDI. Audi's
ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) traction-control and brake force
distribution computer became standard equipment. Sadly the A3 was never
offered with the most powerful 1.9TDI engine, the 150bhp unit offered
in the VW Golf GTI and SEAT Leon FR.
Although the Audi A3 was replaced in Europe during 2003, the first
generation model continues to be sold in developing countries. After
production of the first generation model stopped in Brazil, the retail
price increased from R$60,000(US$30,000) to R$100,000 (US$50,000).

Powertrains and Performance
The sole engine available in the RL is a 3.7-liter V6 that produces
300 hp and 271 pound-feet of torque. This allows a 0-60 time in the
6-second range, just above par for six-cylinder large luxury sedans. A
five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control sends power
to the SH-AWD system. That system has the ability to send varying
degrees of torque to each individual wheel to improve handling and
wet-weather traction. In terms of fuel economy, the RL has an EPA
rating of 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined, which is a
little below average for the V6-powered luxury sedan segment.
About US Online America Group Powertrains and Performance
All 2009 Hummer H3T models come with full-time four-wheel drive
with a two-speed transfer case. All except the Alpha are powered by a
3.7-liter inline five-cylinder engine that makes 239 hp and 241 lb-ft
of torque. The standard transmission is a five-speed manual, and a
four-speed automatic is optional. Although the five makes decent power,
it's simply outmatched by the H3T's near-5,000-pound mass, so
acceleration is leisurely at best. Towing capacity is rated at 4,400
pounds when properly equipped, and EPA fuel economy estimates stand at
14 mpg city/18 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined with either
transmission.
The Alpha features a 5.3-liter V8 (with 300 hp and 320 lb-ft of
torque) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity
goes up to 5,900 pounds, and we'd expect its performance to be about
the same as the H3 Alpha, which sprinted from zero to 60 mph in a
relatively quick 8 seconds flat. With this engine, fuel economy drops
slightly to a 13/16/14 mpg rating.
