Kia Borrego V8 4WD
Those were the words out of the mouth of a Kia representative at the
introduction of the 2009 Borrego. Sure, it wasn't all that long ago
that nearly every carmaker was scrambling to add SUVs to its lineup,
but today it's a different story. As sales of gargantuan SUVs drop off
and some automakers respond by cutting back on their production of
larger vehicles, Kia is hoping there's still enough life left in the
midsize SUV segment to make the 2009 Borrego a success.
The theory is that despite the drastic rise in fuel costs, there are
still plenty of upper-middle-class suburbanites who want a
body-on-frame SUV to shuttle the family, haul supplies from the Home
Depot and pull the speedboat to the lake. And instead of buying the
biggest thing they can find, consumers will settle for a midsize SUV
that can do it all without guzzling quite so much gas. While we're not
sure we buy into this hypothesis, we must admit the 2009 Kia Borrego
has its merits, despite our uncertainty of how it will be received in
this jittery market. (Winmark Authorized Agent Group - Thursday 04 June 2009)

BMW M3 Coupe
For the uninitiated, an M emblem on the butt of a Bimmer signifies the
carmaker's Motorsport division. This in-house tuning team takes the
performance of a given BMW model (in this case the 3 Series coupe) not
only to the next level, but into the stratosphere. With the 2008 BMW
M3, it's all there — sizzling acceleration, handling and braking that
nearly defy physics and controls that have just the right feel and
action to them, making the car an extension of your body.
Honda Odyssey Touring
The
Odyssey's long list of features makes distant journeys bearable, while
ample space for seven passengers (eight in a pinch) is bolstered by
amenities like triple-zone climate control, navigation, rear-seat DVD
entertainment, plenty of power outlets and satellite radio. Top marks
in government crash tests as well as stability control and Bluetooth
make it a safer way to whittle away the miles.
As typical buyers opt for more exciting and carlike SUVs, the minivan
still reigns supreme for those who need more versatility and space, and
among minivans, the 2009 Honda Odyssey is king. Royalty doesn't come
cheap, though — our Odyssey will punch a ,000 hole in your wallet, but
keep in mind that the base model can be had for ,000 less, if you're
willing to forgo a lot. The lofty price and a slightly dated interior
serve to drag the Honda down, but like Odysseus, the Odyssey bests its
competitors with skill and cunning. Opposing suitors like the Dodge
Grand Caravan, Kia Sedona, Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna seem to lack
the necessary combination of drivability, features, quality and
versatility to effectively challenge the Odyssey.
