Farewell! II

| posted by Sharon Jordan-Evans

Did this week fly by? It seems like only yesterday Heath was tutoring Bev and me on the fine art of blogging. I was so proud to even learn a few words of a new language, html.

I had fun and learned a lot --- from you, Bev, and from those who took the time and energy to comment or question or push back. I also have a number of new favorite links, thanks to FC Now!

So, it's over and out. I plan to settle down now with a nice glass of Central California Coast wine and a great book I received at Xmas. If you love pianos or France or both, you might like The Piano Shop on the Left Bank, By Thad Carhart.

Happy weekend to all of you. Thanks Heath and FC for having us!

I have really enjoyed your blogs this week. I think you can sense from the responses that people are totally into discussing the issues you bring up in your book. I hope it inspires people to go set up a reading group in their company and talk about what keeps people and what makes them want to leave. Guidelines for setting up a reading group are posted at www.fastcompany.com/bookclub.

I just came from an authors' group luncheon, as I am one myself ("Beans"). It was myself and six women, who talked extensively about your book and how so many women see things in black and white (their words, not mine). They often say, "Well, my company is not going to give me any time off so I am just going to resign, as my kids are more important to me." They said they feel women aren't given the language of negotiation and often settle for the crumbs. You can read more about this in an excellent book called "Secrets of Six-Figure Women," which is less about money and more about asking for things.

BTW, The Piano Shop on the Left Bank is an absolutely delightful book. Enjoy it!
