Being a great leader isn’t something that happens overnight.
Sure, some people are born with the natural gift to lead, but many of us have
to sharpen those skills a bit before we’re able to hit the floor running. In
the game of soccer, it takes a lot of dedication and practice to get good
handle of the ball. The same has to be done for leadership. Thinking about it
and planning out what’s to be done and how you’ll run things is good, but
without actually putting in a little practice, you’re sure to fail. A great way
to plan and practice leadership is in a place more personal and where you’re
comfortable -- familiarity breeds contempt. It’s true, charity begins at home.
In this case, you’re family and friends can give you the training needed to
hone your leadership skills.

This can be done by simply creating a schedule or other form
of order in your home -- this could include your spouse and children. Enforce
chores and teach the children how to do something new; in this case, they would
have no choice but to follow your lead. Putting your family in unfamiliar
grounds will cause them to automatically look to you to lead them. Then when it
comes to friends, you can create a group or team -- even a football or
basketball team. As the coach, your team will rely on you to lead them to
victory.

With the right amount of planning and practicing, your
leadership will soon shine through. You may be a little shaky at first, but
keep in mind that doubt is the beginning, not the end of wisdom. Being too sure
of yourself could cause you to fail rather quickly. Don’t get it confused, it’s
good to have confidence, just don’t be overconfident. When you have doubt, this
means that you are a thinker and as a leader, you will need to be in order to
come up with better strategies. Then as time goes by, you’ll get the hang of
things and get the leadership ball in the goal with no problem.
