Activist, writer, performer and executive director of WITNESS Jenni Wolfson kicked off
The Push Institute’s 2008 Conference with the first installment of her play RASH
that will be performed in four sections over the course of the conference.
Wolfson’s one-woman performance opens after five startling
gunshots fill the auditorium. Her 15-minute monologue begins to tell the story
of her experience working as for the UN, investigating genocide and human
rights abuses in Rwanda. Graphic photographs accompany vivid descriptions of Wolfson’s life in the
“Switzerland of Africa.” As this segment ends, we learn that after a month in Rwanda,
Wolfson has developed a rash under her eye.
With more to come, Wolfson is sure to delve more deeply into
the themes of the inherent arbitrariness of identity and nationality and the
redeeming potential of the individual to make a difference.
