So who does Demi dig? Well, she's a fan of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Abigail Williams, Lamb of God and Dr. Acula, to name just a few. "I love the Devil Wears Prada; they're more hardcore, but they're awesome," she said. "And Job for a Cowboy is another band I love."
What is it about metal that drew Lovato? She respects the musicianship that goes into crafting brutal tracks. "It's so completely different from anything else," she said. "You've got vocals that I can't do, the double bass drums, the incredible guitar solos ... every part of the band does more difficult stuff than your average rock band does. I listen to these bands, and I wish I could do all of that, but I can't."
A quick rundown of the not-even-close-to-appropriate-for-prime-time references Brand made over the course of the night: something about Madonna, Alex Rodriguez and baseball equipment; a bit about how his nether regions are well-lubricated by cherry ChapStick; a pledge to masturbate more that was inspired by Lil Wayne, who he appeared to invite to join him in the bathroom, or not; a cringe-worthy R. Kelly reference; and a string of jokes at the expense of the chaste Jonas Brothers, including some very unclean references to their purity rings.
It wasn't all randy English jokes, though. There were plenty of musical highlights as well.
Peder Seglund View: Enter Idol
Studying to be a special-education teacher at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Aiken tries out in Atlanta for the second season of American Idol. Though the judges aren't crazy about his look – "Simon said, 'You don't look like a pop star,'" Aiken tells PEOPLE in 2006 – his rendition of "Always and Forever" is enough to get him to Hollywood.

Christina Aguilera
It was the battle of the ex-Mouseketeers: Christina Aguilera versus Britney Spears, both up for the 2000 Grammy for Best New Artist. Spears was the heavy favorite, but with her undeniably powerful voice, Aguilera won the award.

Of course, the night belonged to Britney Spears, who took home three Moonmen, including Video of the Year. Brett Ratner, who directed VMA-nominated videos for Miley Cyrus and Mariah Carey, said, "It was so cool to see Britney. Even though my girls Miley and Mariah didn't win an award, I came to support.
"You know this is Britney's year," he continued. "She came back in a big way. She looked beautiful. She was on it. She looked hot. She was smart, down-to-earth and real. She didn't try too hard."

The controversy kicked off when Brand introduced "Twilight" stars Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Cam Gigandet and Robert Pattinson for their much-hyped appearance. Strolling into an aisle to introduce a performance by Paramore in a re-creation of Hollywood's Whisky a Go Go, the actors each took a turn reciting their lines — but before Pattinson could conclude their moment in the sun, Brand cut off the 22-year-old heartthrob.
"This is a confusing concept," the VMA host rambled as Pattinson could only stand there, politely waiting his turn to speak. "It's bloody confusing, but something exciting is about to happen. Paramore are going to perform from the Whisky ..."
Jeff Gordon
As for their home life, Gordon says Vandebosch picks up the slack when he's busy with work. "We try to travel together. I do everything I can to get home as often as I can. She's the greatest mom on the planet."
Asked if they want more kids, Gordon said, "Maybe!" And even though he's had a year of practice being a dad, he's still open to words of wisdom on the subject. "Everybody I know that becomes a parent reads every book they possibly can," he said. "Any advice I get, I'm going to take it."
"That would be a round peg in a square hole," he said. "Her voice has a certain range. Her style has a certain range. But lyrically, she should have more depth. And her album is going to have a lot of personal experiences on it, some intense things that reflect her life. But a lot of it will be the traditional Britney escapist-bubblegum-dance-pop that she's known for. She shouldn't venture too far out of that. She can't run around in a schoolgirl outfit, that page has turned, but her art doesn't have to be a mirror. That would be depressing. You don't want songs about Britney being in a mental ward."
The fact that Spears was able to bounce back and win three top awards didn't escape the notice of TV Guide Executive Editor Craig Tomashoff, who was hoping for a bit more from the former Mouseketeer. "I'm surprised the opening sketch didn't make any reference to last year," he said. "She seemed kind of nervous and ... I was expecting a little sense of humor about last year, or that there would be some little funny nod to it, something playful that referred to what made it a big deal for her to show up this year."
: Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who talked with MTV News late last month about what a Britney VMA appearance might do for her career, declared the show "ladies' night."
"I'd have to say it was all about the girls," he said. "Divas galore! Britney Spears looked great!"
However, it wasn't ladies' night in the Best New Artist category, where Tokio Hotel took the prize from the likes of alpha females like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry. One of the night's leading ladies, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger (whose group won the Best Dancing in a Video award), gave it up for the German boys.

Star Searching
At 12, Archuleta wins the junior category of Star Search. A few years after his win, he is put under vocal rest to recover from a paralyzed vocal chord. "But that's what gives his voice an interesting quality to it. It's why he has kind of an airy sound to his voice," Dean Kaelin, Archuleta's vocal coach, later tells the AP. "This definitely was an obstacle he had to overcome. But for him, it's a blessing."

A few days ago, 50 told Blender magazine that he was still in Detroit working on Self Destruct with Eminem. He said they had at least one song called "Norman Bates Motel" completed.
"Dre sent over a bunch of beats, and we're just going through them all, picking out who wants what," 50 told the mag. "We already finished one joint and just started vocals on another. It's gonna blow you away, I guarantee."
As that afterparty was winding down, another soiree was just getting under way at iconic West Hollywood hotspot Chateau Marmont, where gossip mag In Touch Weekly threw a big-ticket event featuring performances by Leona Lewis and Good Charlotte, and a surprise appearance by everyone's least favorite afterparty guest, the Los Angeles fire marshal.
Seems everyone wanted to get into the Chateau, which put the event at max capacity, which — of course — meant that the marshal had to be called in to turn partygoers away. So while Lewis was singing, "Piece of Me" director Wayne Isham, "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and about a hundred other Hollywood types were forced to wait outside. David and Victoria Beckham, however — not appreciating their elite status, apparently — left the party early, and Christina Aguilera followed not long after.

: A Pain cut called "Silver and Gold" leaked to the Internet a few months back, with the Tallahassee, Florida, native singing about the effects of blending clear and colored Patrón tequila together for consumption. "You'll be hanging, swanging, drinking two types of Patrón," he sings. "I done mixed up silver and gold/ I done mixed up silver and gold/ I'mma tryin' to get drunk before this party/ Somebody's gonna have to carry me home/ I done drank the silver and gold."
