EATONTOWN, N.J. (September 3, 2009)Circle BMW, the region’s leading BMW dealership, today announced its sponsorship of the Tour de Fair Haven, a competitive bike race and fundraiser, presented by USA Cycling Federation (USCF) affiliate Cycles54 and ForeFront, Inc., in partnership with the Borough of Fair Haven and the Fair Haven Business Association. More than 250 cyclists from the tri-state area will participate in the 4.5 mile closed course along the scenic Navesink River on Sunday, September 20, 2009.

From top athletes to youngsters on tricycles, the Tour de Fair Haven will feature four competitive adult races: category four and five, 35 plus men, 45 plus men/all women and professional one, two and three, as well as races for children and teens. All proceeds raised through the Tour de Fair Haven will be donated to the Joan Dancy & PALS Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients and their families in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

The Tour de Fair Haven was established to build awareness of the sport of bike racing and ALS, commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord resulting in muscle weakness and atrophy. Approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. There is currently no cure for ALS.

Event Director, Michel Berger commented, “Both cyclists and ALS patients have a common pursuit which is to celebrate life, share the moment and win the race.”  The Tour de Fair Haven is dedicated to the memory of Kerrie Anne Guibord, an avid locally-renowned cyclist who passed away earlier this year, five years after receiving her ALS diagnosis.

Tom DeFelice, president of Circle BMW said, “The Tour de Fair Haven is a collaborative effort between the Borough of Fair Haven, the Fair Haven Business Association, local corporations and numerous volunteers all dedicated to bringing a world-class competitive bike race to the Two River area and to raise money for a wonderful cause.” DeFelice added, “The Joan Dancy & PALS Foundation is making a difference in the lives of people affected by ALS in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and we are pleased to support their efforts.”

During the month of September, Circle BMW will also support Holiday Express and Embrace Kids Foundation, two non-profit organizations dedicated to helping people faced with challenges ranging from health issues to financial hardship. Holiday Express delivers music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season and throughout the year. Circle BMW is a sponsor of the second annual Holiday Express Sunset Clambake taking place on Sunday, September, 13, 2009 at McLoone’s Pier House, Long Branch, NJ.

The Monmouth County Concours d’ Elegance is hosting its annual exhibition of pristine classic automobiles on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Hop Brook Farm, Holmdel, NJ. In lieu of an admission fee, visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to make a donation to Embrace Kids Foundation, an organization that helps families whose children have cancer, sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. The foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life of the children and to relieving families of emotional and financial pressures of caring for a child with a chronic illness.
