Peugeot's 308 SW revealed

• On sale in June from around £15,500

• Three petrol engines and three diesels

• Improved fuel economy over 307 SW

Peugeot has revealed its 308 SW estate car, which will replace the 307 SW in June.

There are three petrol and three diesel engines, ranging in power
from 95bhp to 175bhp. Peugeot says the updated engine line-up means the
308 SW gives fuel savings of up to 10% over its predecessor.

The car has a panoramic glass roof that is 27% larger than on the
307 SW, extending beyond the heads of the second row of passengers.

The three seats in the second row are all individual so that they
can be easily removed, while there is a third row with two seats to
make the car a seven-seater.

Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD

Performance

While we didn't get the chance to tow anything with this 2008 Ford
Explorer, this trim level has a tow rating of 7,130 pounds, which is on
par for its class. Its dual-range gearing provides more off-road
ability than a typical crossover, but the Explorer's ground clearance
of 8.2 inches is slightly less than some of its truck-based
competitors. So while the Explorer can theoretically handle rugged
tasks, we wouldn't consider it anything special.

Braking performance is similarly excellent. The Elise SC can stop
from 60 to zero in 110 feet. The ground-sticking suspension, combined
with Yokohama Advan AD07 summer performance tires, helps the Lotus
Elise SC get through the slalom at a blistering 72.4 mph, only 0.2 mph
slower than a Porsche 911.

Today's Fit is slightly larger than before, with a friendlier
cabin, snazzier sheet metal, useful new features and more pleasant
driving dynamics. Strengths like its versatile interior remain, while
blemishes such as its tendency to get the shakes on uneven road
surfaces have been addressed.
