BMW M3 Coupe

Function

In typical BMW fashion (which favors slim roof pillars and plenty
of glass), the M3 provides clear sight lines. The cockpit likewise
provides clear instrumentation, and the clever moving redline on the
tach (it starts lower, around 6,000 rpm when the engine is cold and
gradually moves up to 8,400 rpm as the engine warms up) is handy for
hard-core enthusiasts. Our quibbles are age-old BMW ones, meaning
having to repeatedly tap the fan speed down to shut off the climate
control system and the needlessly complex operation of the iDrive
multifunction controller that operates the optional navigation system.
The numerous personalized performance settings (M Drive) may also
confuse some — reading the thick manual is an absolute must.

2008 Aston Martin Performance

Civility is actually a perfect word to describe how the DBS sets
itself apart from other exotics. The six-speed manual found on our test
car is the only transmission available, yet its clutch is light and has
a relatively short travel. Aside from a rather nebulous 1st-gear
engagement point, the DBS's transmission proved to be as easy to drive
in stop-and-go Dallas traffic as a V6-powered sedan. When driven
aggressively, the clutch is also spot-on, while the chunky
aluminum-topped shifter snick-snicks through its gates with precision.

Dodge Journey R/T

And yet, like so many recent Chrysler products, a wealth of good
ideas and interesting features has been sullied by flawed or
nickel-and-dime execution. In general, the Journey lacks the levels of
refinement found in the many family crossovers it competes with, such
as the RAV4, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe, and larger models like
the Chevy Traverse.

Nissan Rogue SL 2WD Performance

However, this time around, we made sure to drive more prudently,
like the average driver would. Specifically, we were sparing with the
accelerator and kept pace with traffic flow rather than perpetually
trying to get ahead of it. The Rogue is clearly intended to be driven
in this manner. Not only does this strategy quell much of the engine's
droning, it also provides smooth and quiet acceleration while
maximizing the CVT's fuel-economy potential. In our week with the
Rogue, we averaged 23.7 mpg. That's only a hair shy of the EPA's
estimate of 24 combined mpg (22 mpg city/27 mpg highway), which is
impressive given the amount of heavy traffic we drove in, along with a
few strenuous handling evaluations on mountain roads.
