Mike Sexton To Host "Shuffle Up and Deal" Poker Game Show.
You know him as the Ambassador of Poker, a TV Commentator, poker player, author, spokesperson, father, and he's not finished yet. 2009 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Mike Sexton has now signed on to host "Shuffle Up and Deal", the new family friendly poker themed game show, targeting the amateur poker audience.
Sexton, 62 has been involved in the poker industry for almost thirty years. Mike attended Ohio State University on a gymnastics scholarship and received his degree in Public Recreation. After graduating, he joined the Army in 1970 (serving as a paratrooper stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC). After the service he stayed in North Carolina, got married, and worked "real" jobs for four years (as a military sales rep and as a ballroom dance teacher). At that time he began playing in home games and in late 1977 decided to quit his job and try playing poker for a living, which he has done ever since.
Mike currently co-hosts the World Poker Tour with Vince Van Patten on the Travel Channel. He writes for Cardplayer Magazine and Poker News Daily, and serves as a host and consultant for Party Poker.
Mike is also known for being the founder of the Tournament of Champions of Poker. An event that was held once a year, where any player that won a tournament during the previous year could compete.
He holds a World Series of Poker bracelet in Seven Card Stud High Low and has tournament winnings in excess of 3 million dollars.
Mike is known worldwide for his accomplishments and on November 8th of this year, Mike was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
Mike's other poker accomplishment include writing a book entitled Shuffle Up and Deal.
"Mike's natural charisma, elegant charm, and mastery of the game makes him the ideal host and spokesman for Shuffle Up and Deal", says Dewey Oates of Oates Media Group, the developers of the show.
Shuffle Up and Deal is the first "family friendly" poker themed game show. Unlike the typical poker shows on the air today, which feature professional dealers, dealing cards to professional players, unaffordable buy-ins and slow play, "Shuffle Up and Deal" is a fast-paced game show where contestants pit their luck, intuition and skill, against each other.
In each episode, amateur poker players choose their own cards from an over-sized electronic board, and the turn of each card either helps the contestant's hand or destroys their chances of winning. The main objective of the game is to finish with the largest amount of cash winnings amongst the 5 contestants. The one that advances to the bonus round plays for a progressive jackpot that seeds at $250,000 and goes up ten thousand dollars for every day it is not hit. The jackpot will eventually top out at 1 million dollars.
Shuffle Up and Deal will also feature an interactive component where home viewers are invited to play the "Follow the Ace" game, in which they enter, via their home phone or cellular telephone keypad, which of five "shuffled" cards they believe is the Ace of Spades. Those who select the right card number are entered into a random drawing, to win a $10,000 prize.
"Poker has been a great source of entertainment for many people, for many years, but in order to grow and continue to be the most popular game of all times, poker needs to reach out to a whole new audience. Shuffle Up and Deal does just that, and I'm proud to be a part of this new movement." says Sexton.
