Get Over Yourself

If you're still stuck in the old company way of doing things you're probably still thinking that your work is YOURS.  Well, I hate to tell you this (not really), but it's not.  "Your" work is actually the company's.  Everyone in a company exists to provide services that add to that company's success.

I'm proposing a new model.  How about we assume that everyone in a company is there to do the same thing, namely, what's best for the company.   Not too novel of a concept, but very powerful, nonetheless.  If all employees are giving each other the benefit of the doubt that all intentions lead back to what's best for the company, the walls of politics and bureaucracy come crashing down.

Improving communication is key.  A common language must be found between all employees so that all can speak "the truth in love"...in this case, love for the success of the company. Training must be done to allow all employees to get on the same page.  When the ground rules are laid out, then the real growth of a company can begin.

Employees become empowered to offer suggestions and feedback throughout the company, not just in the area in which they are experts. Suddenly, every employee holds a responsibility to put forth their perspectives, as well as consider everyone else's.  Creativity in solution is embraced over separation of responsibility.

The decisions are still made by the same people, but more perspectives are shared (and heard) by more people, which eventually leads to better solutions.
