Function

With 55 buttons and/or knobs, our fully loaded Pilot Touring with
rear entertainment system looks as if its dash has been lifted from the
space shuttle Discovery. Despite some initial shock, though, the audio
and navigation systems' controls quickly become intuitive, with a
number of different ways to do any single task — dedicated buttons,
multipurpose control knob or voice commands. The climate controls are
needlessly busy, however, and the rear entertainment controls certainly
don't help the clutter. Get a non-Touring Pilot, and you can drop 20
buttons.

Toyota Venza V6 2WD Performance

People don't buy vehicles like the Venza for back-road buffoonery,
but if you need to make haste on a winding road — late for Junior's Boy
Scout camp, perhaps? — this 2-ton Toyota proves a surprisingly willing
partner. The electric power steering is short on feel but nicely
weighted, and body motions are reasonably well-controlled considering
the Venza's utilitarian purpose. More relevant to most consumers is
ride comfort, and our Venza had it in spades despite its gigantic
20-inch wheels, smoothing out pockmarked pavement with unruffled
composure. Overall, we found the Venza's ride-handling balance to be
quite pleasant, and we think the average shopper in this segment will
agree.

Toyota RAV4 Performance

At the test track, our loaded, four-wheel-drive RAV4 Limited ran to
60 mph in just 7.3 seconds and flashed through the quarter-mile in 15.4
seconds, making this the Usain Bolt of its class. On the road, the
five-speed automatic transmission was hard to fault, with smooth
gearchanges and a willingness to step down a gear or two when a burst
of power was needed for merging or passing.

Function

Though the Civic Hybrid's compact size allows for decent overall
visibility, its high rear deck and wide rearmost roof pillars make it a
little difficult to see while reversing. No extra parking aids
(sensors, rearview camera) are available to remedy the situation.
