Who Is Responsible for Contaminated Tap Water?

Do we really know who is responsible for contaminated water, or do
we spend most of our time trying to guess, because no one really knows?

It's a sad fact of life these days that everyone takes it for
granted that we are drinking contaminated water. No one even takes the
trouble to argue about it any longer either. Now that is a terrible
commentary on life in the 21st century. It's come to this because for
years we have all relied on our local community, city, town or village
to "do" something about our water to make it safe. Perhaps they have
attempted to do that, but they're not helping any longer. In fact,
things seem to be getting worse.

It has a great deal to do with aging infrastructures and the
inability of local water treatment plants to keep up with the heavy
influx of contaminants floating around in our water supplies. So
really, who is responsible for coming up with a solution to eliminate
contaminated water? Well, one would think it would be the municipal
treatment plants, but on closer inspection, that doesn't seem to be the
case (after all they use a toxic chemical to "clean" the water called
chlorine). They are being flooded with all kinds of contaminants coming
in from various locations, from manufacturing plants to groundwater
run-off full of pesticides and other chemicals.

Could it be that the responsibility for clean water really is up to
everyone? Actually, that is the cold hard truth. We are ultimately
responsible for the safety and purity of our own water supplies, yet
many don't seem to realize this is the case. Stuck with that
revelation, we have yet to be effective in dealing with the
consequences of polluting our own water and then botching the job of
filtering it as well.

Given what is floating around in our water today, our filtration
plants need very expensive systems to be effective. What city in your
area do you know that is willing to spend a lot of money to upgrade
water filtration plants, when chlorine is cheaper? Since we can't count
on municipalities to do their duty, this mean you and I have to take
matters into our own hands. This seems to be quite common now and the
demand for in-home water treatment systems has skyrocketed.
