Goodway Landscape Water Gardens - Jeff Zima Landscape

Does your yard need a Water Feature? How about a second one? What can
be a more pleasant way to welcome friends and family to your home than
with a Pondless™ Waterfall or an AquaBasin™ near the front door? Maybe
you aren't familiar with what is available but have been recently
introduced to the water gardening world by a co-worker or a neighbor; a
family member or friend. Do you have a smaller budget or a limited
space to work with? If maintenance is a concern, don't let it be-our
features practically maintain themselves! Do you have small children or
pets? No problem! We have met all of these challenges and more with
great success; we have something for everyone! Please take the time to
read through our web site; there is plenty of information. From photos
and diagrams, to pond care and education, we are constantly updating
and improving what is available. The Pond Contractor is committed to
your waterscape. We Bring Paradise Home!

Aquatic Plants are Mother Nature's best filters - from a filtration
perspective they are second to none. Thriving from the excess nutrients
in a pond and depriving the algae of its food source, the aquatic
plants in a water garden, given proper coverage, are critical to the
overall ecosystem. It is not a good idea to keep more than one pond
plant in its container (and none for ponds 8'x11' and smaller) because
aquatic plants need to stretch their roots in order to thrive, and
because those roots will help to reduce bio-solids, or sludge.

Goodway Landscape Gardens In
every season at the Garden, there are activities, programs and
breathtaking beauty throughout all our 385 acres of woods, waterways,
23 formal display gardens and three natural areas.

You can explore the wonders of the Garden by walking or by taking a
tram, either the panoramic overview or the intimate view of the gardens
of the main island. To assist your visit, please download Garden guides
of individual gardens or the general Garden Map.

Detailed information on special events, exhibits, garden walks and
tram hours is available online in the Events Calendar or onsite at the
Visitor Center.

We are keenly aware of the problem of invasive plants and we
do not sell plants in a region if they are considered invasive. Some
varieties we have stopped growing entirely because they became invasive
in more and more regions. And before we introduce a new plant variety,
it is scrutinized for potential invasiveness.

Lights may be added to accentuate your feature in the evening,
accommodating the ambience and mood. The AquaBasin™ is perfect for our
customers who would like to add a water feature to their landscape but
don't have room in their budget for an Aquascape™ Pond or Pondless™
feature.

It’s easy to find out the quality of your soil – and it’s easy to improve it.

There are three different types of soil. Consider the list below to
determine yours. If you are still unsure, visit your local garden
center. They are experts in your region’s conditions and are there to
help.

We know just how important soil is to healthy plants. That’s why every
pot contains a whole ecosystem full of invisible microorganisms that
work hard to make you a more successful gardener. It’s Monrovia’s
secret to maximum growth and flowering through powerful mycorrhizal
fungi and slow-release fertilizers that gives our plants the growing
edge. Combined with your soil improvement efforts, we guarantee our
plants will go the distance and really pay off with extraordinary
beauty and vigor.

The pH scale indicates acidity or alkalinity. A soil with a pH
number below 7 is acid, while one with a pH above 7 is alkaline. Garden
plants typically grow best in neutral or slightly acid soil and you
need not be concerned with pH unless your soil is one extreme or the
other. Many good garden centers will gladly test a soil sample for pH
levels for you, or you can buy an inexpensive pH test.

Goodway Landscape Waterfalls
Drainage is non-negotiable

Without adequate drainage a pot fills with water and plant roots
rot. Roots in pots need both moisture and oxygen, which requires
containers to have sizeable drain holes on the bottom. Before you
plant, it’s essential you line the bottom of the pot with gravel to
allow water to move easily to the drain holes.

Having a pond and caring for it requires less maintenance than
a lawn. With its own ecological system including water plants,
beneficial bacteria, fish, a bio-falls unit, a skimmer and a net that
automatically catches debris, the water stays crystal clear. In this
naturalistic setting, the fish eat the plants, then produce waste that
gets broken down (along with other pond debris) by aerobic bacteria
that's colonized on the rocks and gravel below; it is then taken back
up as nutrition by the plants, continuing the cycle. Put up your feet
and relax with a book or enjoy the wildlife as you realize that your
pond has made your backyard a living, breathing environment!

About Jeff Zima

We operate a constructed wetland at our Cairo, Georgia location -
another first in the nursery industry. Excess rainwater can be diverted
into the wetlands allowing plants and bacteria within the wetland to
utilize any nutrients in the water. This wetland system is part of an
in depth water and nutrient management plan in place at our Georgia
nursery that allows water to be recycled whenever possible, reducing
the amount of groundwater used.

Gardeners need a way to compare their garden climates with the climate
where a plant is known to grow well. That's why climate zone maps were
created. Zone maps are tools that show where various permanent
landscape plants can adapt. If you want a shrub, perennial, or tree to
survive and grow year after year, the plant must tolerate year-round
conditions in your area, such as the lowest and highest temperatures
and the amount and distribution of rainfall.
