Nanobots: It's No Nonsense
| posted by Kevin OhannessianThis story tickles the sci-fi geek in me. While many view nanobots as a pipedream, the development of these cancer-detecting nanowires is a clear indicator that nanotechnology is progressing in so many sectors, from computing to biotechnology. And while there is still much research ahead, I think we are beginning to see tangible results. The next decade should be transformative.
It seems the next big boom will be more companies diversifying into nanotechnology projects related to their industries or markets. Molecular manipulation should touch all types of products or services. Even so, let's just hope that expectations remain realistic and businesses aren't overwhelmed by the hype. Still, innovations are coming, if we remain patient.
What nanotechnology research impresses you? What nanotechnology are you looking forward to?

Kurt MaddoxWe now have so-called "smart cards" and "smart houses" along with an explosion of technlogy imbued products claiming the "smart" moniker. Nano-tech will certainly be explosive fuel to the "smart" fire. What I look most forward to is when nano-bio enables us to become "smart people". Personally, I am very much looking forward to the 15 minutes each day I'll save with the new "Where are my keys and sunglasses?" feature embedded in my "LiveSmart" rubber bracelet!

Rev.Antoinette PezetWell yes and no. Technological breakthroughs always have both attractive and sometimes freightening applications - nuclear power, many chemical breakthroughs have brought death, and destruction through misuse, witness the use of chemical fertilizers seen as a blessing at the turn of the 19th century that now result in poor quality food!
Nano-technology will be no different. Be cautious and think of the future as well as to profits. Some things while profitable to society in the short-run become very expensive in the long-run.

TomHi there,
after the reading of the excellent novel by Michael Crichton "PREY", I have to hope nano tech will be released with the best precautions ever.
I just hope scientists will realize it is not a run for the first company to develop nano tech. People just don't seem to care what they are trying to manipulate.

A BismarkThe whole gamut of Nano technology is very impressive. The cautionary notes surrounding Nanotechnology are well founded but are far far outrun by the benefits to us humanity, progress and all. The most exciting nanotechnology benefits that I look forward to are in the fields of medicine, materials, and computing.
