One night I took my girlfriend to the famed Savoy Ballroom in Harlem to
dance. I remember Erskine Hawkin's band was there, Erskine was famous
for his record, "Tuxedo Junction." As we entered the Savoy, a brutal
sight greeted us. Up a steep flight of stairs leading to the dance
floor, we could hear Erskine's trumpet wailing out from the ball room.
At the top of the stairs the bouncer had his large arm around another
man's neck. With his free hand the bouncer was pounding his fist into
the face of the man he was holding. Then with a mighty effort, the
bouncer lifted the man he was holding chest high, and threw him down
the stairs. The fellow tumbled down the whole flight of stairs and
landed bloody and unconscious at our feet. My girlfriend paled and
turned to leave. "No," I said, "That's Harlem justice. The guy must
have tried to rob somebody. We're here, let's go up stairs and dance."

Optimistic business news, is, of course, always great to hear,
but our focus is the stock market. And more specifically, are we in a
bear market correction or in a new bull market, as so many analysts
claim?

repeat, I'm suspicious. In less than a month from the March 9 low, the
"good news" is starting to pour out. Normally, when a bear market
bottom is formed, it may be six months to a year before we see
indications (news) of better times. But economists can't wait for the
good news -- they're telling the world that the trillions of dollars
that the government has spent has already hit pay-dirt. The worst is
over.

By the way, I used to listen to Carleton Fredericks, one of the
earliest of the "eat healthily" pioneers. Then, of course there was
Charles Atlas and Bernard McFadden (a new book has just come out about
the fabulous McFadden). Despite these pioneers, more Americans are
obese than ever.

I note the kids today are bigger and taller than ever. I think it's
the damn growth hormones in milk and meat, and I suspect those growth
hormones promote cancer. I use organic rice milk instead of bovine
milk. It's cheaper and I like it, and it's free of those darn growth
hormones.
