Your associations may be brewing reputation management problems.

Reputation management problems aren’t always caused by dastardly deeds and mishaps. Sometimes, a simple affiliation can get your name on the first page of Google in a negative spotlight.

In a recent case, we observed a gentleman who commented in the newspaper regarding fraudulent record keeping in a non-profit. Even though the individual was neither part of the situation nor part of the organization for several years, the newspaper article looked as though this person was an officer in the organization.

If asked to comment on a situation for a group of which you are no longer part, it’s best to simply not offer comment. Every time your name is mentioned in the newspaper article, the article becomes more relevant to your name; thus, more likely to be an online reputation management problem.
