Not too many weeks ago, I learned that the Fast Company refrigerator came complete with an ice maker. I've worked here since 1997, and I had no idea. Now I can drink water so cold my teeth hurt. I feel a little silly that I was so unfamiliar with the FC kitchen for so long, but that experience has inspired me to look at my workplace in a new light.
That's part of the work of Joel Henry, the founder of the Laboratory of Experimental Tourism. For more than a decade, Henry has encouraged alternative modes of travel, including monopolytourism and countertourism.
While Henry's ideas might be better suited for vacationing, the concept reminds me of a conversation Fast Company contributor Jill Rosenfeld had with design consultant -- and active traveler -- Marti Guixe.
How well do you know where you work?
