US News & World Report released its new list of America's best graduate schools in the April 11 edition. Here's the top 10 business schools:

  • Harvard University
  • Stanford University
  • University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
  • MIT (Sloan)
  • Northwestern University (Kellogg)
  • Dartmouth College (Tuck)
  • University of California -- Berkeley (Haas)
  • University of Chicago
  • Columbia University
  • University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor (Ross)

Also in that issue, Justin Ewers poses the question, "Is the MBA Obsolete?" What do you think? Take the Fast Company poll.

Your list is misleading since several schools are tied for the same spot (e.g. MIT and Kellogg share the same spot)

Thanks for your feedback! When writing that entry, I debated how to approach the ties. When looking at US News' list, those are indeed the top 10 schools, despite the ties, and I reported the results in the order reflected on US News' Web site.

Just when I thought rankings couldn't get any more ridiculous, this list comes out. How can one school be in the twenties in one set of rankings and in the forties in another? I only pay attention to the WSJ rankings that focus on recruiter and company feedback. Isn't the next step after B-school a job?

WSJ ranking is a joke! Recruiters told the WSJ they preferred hiring at schools where graduates expected lower starting salaries and were more willing to relocate. WSJ survey focused on the number of applicants hired and value for the money spent recruiting. Given that more than 3000 companies come to Harvard and Wharton trying to hire 800 graduates, this makes it relatively difficult for top schools to rate well.

True, these are indeed the top 10 schools. Only some schools are sorted by rank while others are sorted by alphabet. If I recall my statistcs classes corectly, only one method could be used (unless of course if you include the rank like USNews did).

Top 10 USNews Schools (Sorted by alphabet):
Columbia University
Dartmouth College (Tuck)
Harvard University
MIT (Sloan)
Northwestern University (Kellogg)
Stanford University
University of California -- Berkeley (Haas)
University of Chicago
University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor (Ross)
University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)

Top 10 USNews Schools (Sorted by rank):
Harvard University
Stanford University/ University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
MIT (Sloan)/ Northwestern University (Kellogg)
Dartmouth College (Tuck)
University of California -- Berkeley (Haas)
University of Chicago
Columbia University
University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor (Ross)

Or just

1. Harvard University
2. Stanford University
2. University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
4. MIT (Sloan)
4. Northwestern University (Kellogg)
6. Dartmouth College (Tuck)
7. University of California -- Berkeley (Haas)
8. University of Chicago
9. Columbia University
10.University of Michigan -- Ann Arbor (Ross)
