File under: Bad Idea? This spring, Nevada-based Orbital Development auctioned off the opportunity to send 22 pounds of "personal cargo" (read: garbage?) to the moon on a commercial space launch. "Condition of the cargo cannot be guaranteed after the 4,000 mph impact," one report says.

Dubbed the Moon Crash Project, the effort called for an opening bid of $6.2 million. The auction attracted no takers.
