Hallmark, that ultimate purveyor of commercialized sentimental holiday cards, has taken its site "temporarily offline for maintenance," and "are doing a bit of house cleaning." Today? When all those too-late for snail mail cupids are out there looking for e-Cards? I doubt it. Looks much more like a case of IT overload or a timing decision made by V-day's biggest cynic.
(A special Valentine's Day shoutout to my own lovemark for this bit of news. I Heart Gawker!)

I had a good laugh at Hallmark's expense yesterday when I tried to send my better half an e-card on V-day.
I used to work at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. They are a good company [as far a large coroporations go] but I'm still shocked when a company as quality oriented as HMK screws up at such a monumental scale. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall and listen to all the "it didn't matter that much" BS that is circulating throughout the resposibility dodging management meetings today at HMK.

I came accross that notice on their page as well, but checked back a few minutes later and it was fine. My friends had trouble accessing their e-cards later on though. Maybe it had something to do with high traffic?

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.
