Dr Terry Kim Lasik - About Dr Terry Kim
Contact lenses and LASIK have many similarities in that for the
millions of patients who are nearsighted, farsightedness or have
astigmatism, both vision correction options can help achieve
independence from the hassles and limitations of wearing eyeglasses.
One of the main things to keep in mind about LASIK lasers is
that not all of them are FDA approved, or they are only FDA approved
for specific procedures. It is very important that you ask your doctor
if laser used is FDA approved and approved for the surgery being
performed. In addition to FDA approval, specific types of LASIK lasers
are used for certain conditions or procedures.

What is LASIK surgery exactly?
It’s the use of a laser beam to modify the shape of your cornea
such that your vision will improve. So let’s look at how our vision
works, why it might be less than perfect, and how LASIK surgery changes
it.
LASIK (laser-assisted-in-situ-keratomileusis), LASEK and PRK
(photo refractive keratectomy) are now available to correct your vision
with laser surgery, and are considered safe and permanent alternatives
to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses.
About Dr Terry Kim
There is little doubt that wearing glasses is not the optimal form of
vision correction when it comes to vision performance. Contact lenses
and LASIK both will correct your vision and eliminate a number of
vision performance related issues induced by eyeglass correction.
LASIK is similar to other surgical corrective procedures such
as photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface
Ablation) though it provides benefits such as faster patient recovery.
Both LASIK and PRK represent advances over radial keratotomy in the
surgical treatment of vision problems, and are thus viable alternatives
to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses for many patients.
Patients experience virtually no discomfort during the LASIK Vision
Correction procedure. Eye drop anesthesia is used to numb the eye prior
to the procedure, so no injections are necessary. Immediately after
treatment, some patients have reported minor discomfort, like having an
eyelash or a dry contact lens in their eye.
In traditional LASIK, an instrument known as a microkeratome cuts a
thin, hinged flap into the eye's clear surface (cornea). The flap then
is lifted for application of laser energy that reshapes the eye for
vision correction. Replacing the flap in LASIK promotes faster healing.
