Watch Out Top Chef: Eric Ripert Goes Hollywood

BY Danielle SacksThu Feb 5, 2009 at 4:59 PM

Foodies know him as the four-star chef of Le Bernardin, reality TV junkies know him as the classy French soul on Bravo's Top Chef, and the ad shop Anomaly, knows him, well, as The Brand Called Eric. Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced "Avec Eric," a new HD TV series chronicling Eric Ripert's culinary adventures in Italy, Northern California and New York, that will debut nationally on PBS in the fall. Anomaly, the ad shop-meets-IP-incubator we profiled in last year's "50 Most Innovative Companies," is the force behind the new series.

As we wrote about last March, Ripert turned to Anomaly last year to help him design his own version of a chef's multimedia-product empire. Although Ripert is the major shareholder in his personal brand, Anomaly--which runs the business, finances and operations of the venture--skillfully snagged itself "a significant, minority" stake. You can bet Anomaly is hoping Ripert's old world charm will brand him as the anti-Emeril. They did opt for PBS, after all.

I'm always watching that series. I love how they cook under time pressure. Celebrity gossip pages are afire with news about Jessica Simpson's dog – and the word is that Jessica Simpson's dog has been kidnapped by a coyote. The dog was a Maltipoo – which is a hybrid Maltese and poodle. It's the kind of dog that whines and yaps too much and offends people with a serious and superior breed of animal. For instance, guitarist Zakk Wylde is a noted Rottweiler owner, a loyal and stable breed, fantastic with children that would disembowel any errant coyote that had enough stupidity and hubris to dare walk into their area. (Zakk Wylde is also known for writing his own songs – something which Simpson is unable to do. Then again, he has talent.) Still, if Jessica Simpson's dog lives, she is offering an installment loans worth for the safe return of her prized pooch.
