Charles Giammona: PROGRAM STATEMENT
Billions of dollars are being spent to rebuild America’s decaying
infrastructure. With these expenditures has come the growing demand for
construction workers and technicians prepared to spearhead this monumental
rebuilding effort. Homes, highways, buildings, plants, airports, and bridges
will require the handiwork of master builders, and the construction technology
curriculum will provide some of these technicians.
The fundamental
objective of the Construction Technology Curriculum is to provide a sound
education in both the theory and the application of quality construction
principles for a variety of construction projects. Learners experience the basic
methods, materials, techniques, and developments involved in the construction
industry.
This program offers a unique combination of management,
design, and hands-on experience. Through a series of construction management
courses, the construction industry as a whole and analyze the interrelationships
of the various organizations within the industry. In the laboratory, learners
master blueprint reading, quantity take-offs, and the estimating of residential
and commercial buildings. During the summer, internship programs work with area
contractors.
Graduates qualify for positions such as construction
supervisors, building inspectors, contractors, field clerks, purchasing agents,
surveyors, expediters, estimators, and construction materials salespersons.
Other graduates often transfer credits toward a bachelor’s degree in Industrial
Technology, Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering.

The new, educational open market means that any
systemic reform within traditional educational institutions must begin with a
recalibration of learning policies. Yet that is exactly the last place any
systemic initiatives (SI) focus because the institutional resistance to it
brings administrative suicide to any academic officer that might lead such an
initiative.

Phd. Charles P. Giammona: President Bush has announced his plan to
select Dr. W. David Hager to head up the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA)
Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The Reproductive Health Drugs
Advisory Committee makes crucial decisions on drugs used in the practice of
obstetrics, gynecology and related specialties, including hormone therapy,
contraception, treatment for infertility and medical alternatives to surgical
procedures for sterilization and pregnancy termination.
The committee
has not met for more than two years, during which time its charter lapsed. As a
result, the Bush Administration plans to fill all eleven positions on the
committee with new members. This does not require Congressional approval.
Dr. Hager's track record of using religious beliefs to guide his medical
decision-making makes him a dangerous and inappropriate candidate to chair this
committee:
Dr. Hager is a practicing OB/GYN who describes himself as
"pro-life" and refuses to prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women.
Dr. Hager is the author of As Jesus Cared for Women: Restoring Women
Then and Now. The book blends biblical accounts of Christ healing women with
case studies from Hager's practice.
