Social Media Can Ruin Your Reputation

BY Carol Montgomery Adams | 03-29-2009 | 12:17 AM
This blog is written by a member of our blogging community and expresses that member's views alone.

Not everyone cares about their online reputation.  Most likely, if someone is a jerk offline they will be one online too!

But after a while one has to publicly decry the amount of junk videos that we get hit with whether it be on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.  The quality of video communicationcan speak volumes for the quality of your personal "brand" and should not be ignored when building an online reputation.

So, to the next person who wants to Twitter me with a video link, or send me a video in email, or ask me to check out their video on Facebook or their website, this is for you.

I promise to watch your video IF you promise to:

Talk as if I was right in front of you, not in a room of millions                                                               Keep the expensive camera and fancy graphics for some other use
Give me something I'll want to tell others about
Not underestimate my ability to spot "hype"
Keep it short and sweet
Speak clearly - don't yell, don't mumble
Give me a reason to come back
Ask me to share
And Thank me for watching

Thank you for reading.
