Barnhart Inc Wins 2008 AGC Safety Award

Barnhart Inc., local constructor commended in national competition by the Associated General Contractors of America.

Local General Contractor and Construction Manager Barnhart, Inc. was commended by the national Associated General Contractors (AGC) for their excellent safety record at the AGC National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

Barnhart, Inc. received the 2008 AGC Construction Safety and Excellence Awards (CSEA) Grand Award. The Grand Award is chosen from 20 CSEA first place winners as the "best of the best" in construction safety excellence. Barnhart also won first place in its CSEA category for Building Division companies with 700,000 to 1,000,000 work hours.

The awards are given to recognize the companies who have developed and implemented excellent safety and loss prevention programs achieved through management commitment, employee involvement, and program innovation

 

Program judges included a panel of safety experts, including Richard Wright, chief, safety and occupational health, U.S. Army Corps of engineers; Steven Witt, director, directorate of construction, OSHA; Sherwood Kelly, senior vice president and director of safety management, Willis; Mark Elfrink, manager of construction safety and security, Anheuser Busch; and Pat Conroy, program director, Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists.

 

Finalists gave a five minute presentation on the company's safety program, and then participated in a 10 minute question-and-answer session with judges. Accepting the award at the convention on March 12,2008 were Tex Barnhart, Brian Cahill, Mike Pennington, Shawn Fisher and Nick Ashby.

 

Barnhart, Inc. was also recognized by its local AGC San Diego Chapter for its safety excellence. Barnhart, Inc. is the 6th largest educational builder in the nation, and the largest locally owned contractor in San Diego.
