Organisations looking to improve their search engine optimisation
(SEO) strategies could find that choosing their domain name carefully
helps their efforts, it has been claimed.

Australian SEO firm
Shout noted that companies should consider which keywords are the most
important and try to include these in their domain name.

In a
piece published by Article Maniac, the firm asserted that a
well-optimised name could give online businesses the edge over similar
organisations.

It explained that this is particularly the case
when potential customers use search engines to try to find a company to
suit their needs.

"More often than not a search engine will
seem to think that a keyword-rich domain name is more relevant for the
search query. A direct effect of this is that such sites will often be
placed towards the top of search results," Shout asserted.

Despite
this, the firm warned major enterprises with well-established brands
that using keyword-rich domain names might not be the best option.

However,
smaller businesses might find they have an advantage over competitors
if they manage to properly optimise their domain name.

This
comes after Build-a-Web-Shop said in an Article Maniac piece that firms
should ensure they try to optimise their websites for keywords they
know they can rank for.
