When developing an effective multilingual search engine optimisation
(SEO) campaign it is important to have good keyword selection, it has
been claimed.
Ecommerce Times noted that the process of
suggesting the right keywords for a multilingual site is more complex
than doing it on monolingual pages.
It explained that while,
for example, an English searcher might type in one term or phrase when
looking for a particular item, there might be a variety of different
terms in another language.
"SEO experts first analyse key
industry terms and conduct linguistic research. Once they have the
first list of keywords, they conduct a search engine search based on
competition and popularity to then execute a full competitor analysis
in the target language," the website commented.
The online portal
claimed that keyword research should be an ongoing effort and that it
is necessary to constantly liaise with product teams to find out new
keywords and industry terms.
It cited research indicating that
92 per cent of internet users browse in their own language and added
that well-researched key phrases could help businesses rank much higher
on search engines.
This comes after a HighPosition.net blog
entry said it is vital for search marketers to work out which keywords
best represent their website.
